March 24, 2019
Matthew 9:35-38

35Then Jesus went to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom,and healing everydisease and every sickness.36When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out,like sheep without a shepherd.37Then He said to His disciples,“The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few.38Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

A. Jesus is compassionate towards the marginalized, the abused, the poor, and the broken. Mark 1:40-42

B. Jesus is compassionate towards the humble – Matthew 18:21-35; Luke 15:17-24; Psalm 51:17

C. Jesus is compassionate towards those who need spiritual direction – Matthew 9:35-38

D. Jesus is compassionate to everyone – John 3:16-18

III. The response to Jesus’ compassion

A. Worship, thanksgiving, and love to God – Luke 7:36-50; 15:24

B. Repentance (and belief) – Romans 2:4

C. Be compassionate to others – I John 4:19; Luke 10:29-37

D. Go – make disciples (followers of Jesus) – Matthew 9:35-38
