The Real Jesus: Jesus’ Humility
April 14, 2019
Philippians 2:3-8

3Do nothing out of rivalryor conceit, but in humilityconsider others as more importantthan yourselves.4Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
5Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God
as something to be used for His own advantage. 7Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8He humbled Himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—even to death on a cross.

Today: Jesus’ Humility

I. Jesus’ glory – Daniel 7:13-14 (Palm Sunday a slight foreshadowing); John 17:1-5

We can’t truly appreciate His humility until we understand His greatness.

II. Jesus’ humility seen in His emptying of Himself – Phil. 2:5-7

III. Jesus’ humility seen in becoming a man (incarnation, advent) Phil. 5:7b; Luke 2:5-7; Hebrews 4:15

IV. Jesus’ humility seen in His life and ministry – Philippians 2:7; Luke 2:52; 9:52-56; Matthew 3:13-17; John 13:1-15

Main Idea: Humility is just acting if it is not an action.

Main Idea #2: Humility is developed in someone more significantly as they have seen and appreciated it from Jesus Christ.

V. Jesus’ humility seen in His sacrifice – Philippians 2:8; Romans 5:6-8

Conclusion: Philippians 2:3-5, Romans 8:28; I John 2:6. WCC’s 4G commitments – a guide to help us see what it looks like to live sacrificially.
