The Real Jesus: Jesus’ Humanity
February 17, 2019
Hebrews 4:14-16

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast to the confession.15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are,yet without sin.16Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.

Intro: New Sermon Series: The Real Jesus (idea from “Beautiful Outlaw” by John Eldridge)

How well do you think you know Jesus?

What is Jesus like? What do you think of when you hear the name, “Jesus”?

Psychologically, when we see something or are taught that something is the way it is,
we immediately begin to only be able to see that thing within that context.

The problem – we have far too small and narrow view of the person of Jesus.

We have allowed our minds to put Jesus in a box through the influences of our culture
rather than the influences of what is actually true about Jesus!

Hebrews 4:14-16

1) Jesus is our high priest (v. 14)

2) Jesus understands (v. 15)

A) Full of humanity

B) Full of personality

C) Full of experience

The only experience Jesus doesn’t know is sinning. But, He knows the consequences of sin!

D) Full of deity (Philippians 2:6-8; John 14:6)

3) You can run directly to God! (v. 16; Hebrews 2:17-18)
